Setting up email on Apple Mail (IMAP)

The following instructions will show how to setup email on Mac OS X. We will be using Apple Mail, which is the Mail program built into the operating system. We will be using the IMAP protocol.

 

  1. Load Apple Mail.
  2. From the menu bar, select ‘Mail‘ / ‘Add Account’. In the ‘Choose a mail account to add.’ section, select ‘Add Other Mail Account‘, then click Continue.osx_email_1
  3. In the ‘Add a Mail Account‘ section, enter your Full Name, your Email Address, and your email Password, then click Createosx_email_2
  4. In the ‘Incoming Mail Server Info‘ section, ensure IMAPS is selected. Next enter the Mail Server, the User Name and the Password. In the Mail Server section, ensure to enter your domain name. For example if your domain is hello.com.au, then your mail server would be mail.hello.com.au. The username is your email address. The password is your email password. After this, click Next.osx_email_3
  5. In the ‘Incoming Mail Server Info‘ section, type ‘INBOX‘ as the Path Prefix. Ensure the port is 143. Ensure Authentication is set to ‘Password‘. Click Next.osx_email_4
  6. In the ‘Outgoing Mail Server info‘ section, enter the SMTP Server, the User Name and the Password. In the SMTP server section, ensure to enter your domain name. For example if your domain is hello.com.au, then the SMTP server would be mail.hello.com.au. The username is your email address. The password is your email password. After this, click Create.osx_email_5
  7. In the ‘Outgoing Mail Server Info‘ section, ensure the Port is 587. Ensure Authentication is set to ‘Password‘. Click Create.osx_email_6
  8. If you get a warning about ‘The Identity cannot be verified, click on ‘Show Certificate‘.osx_email_7
  9. In the certificate section, click ‘Always trust . Click Connect.

Your email should now be setup. To ensure it is working, send an email from and to this account.
